I do not want to sound patronizing at all but I have never bought a toy soldier as an "inversion"... not even ever thought nobody else will like mine (because what I like is "personal" and what you do like is too... meaning I have seen in my life Toy Soldiers that do not interest me at all... will not even bend to get them from the floor if you understand what I am saying... the WOW factor Mr. James Opie mentioned in his book is paramount I guess.
If you want to invest buy gold not lead. But where is the fun?
Have to admit I display my Toy Soldiers as a "collection" and they are used as an Interior Decoration asset... people that have seen them say things like: NICE!... or did you paint them all?... or even sillier comments... I do not care a bit.
If I bother to explain that actually the biggest % of them are for Old School Wargaming... the comments become really surreal.
I love Toy Soldiers, I collect them, paint some... but it is a hobby. Could have gone collecting silver cowcreamers if you like... (thanks God NO!).
Will leave a more or less relation of them to my children but not very detailed I fear... example:
Trooping the Colour? DUCAL, the other smaller cabinet? mainly Tradition of London with some conversions and some W. Britains 1990/2000; those in your ex-office? French Army is 99% DORSET SOLDIERS; USA REPLICA: BRITS? (1)Khaki 99% REPLICA with some Dorset and W. Britains; (2) Brits in redcoats and dress uniforms (SIMKIN) 60% REPLICA and the rest W. Britains 1990/2000;
The white cork helmets part ZULU/Tel el Kebir are Steadfast mainly... and that's that.
It was my pleasure... as other members of the family have bought Oil Paintings... Ivory little Chinese Peasants and so on... it was their kicks not mine.
Hope you do not find depressing... it is pure realism from my point of view.
AND: Keep in mind that if it was to be "reconsidered" (or had a second chance) I would do again the same I did... so: JE NE REGRETTE RIEN!
