Time marches on
So here we are VE Day 80 in few days. For those who lived through the war and got to this day it must have felt like a pressure valve had been released. you live through the Blitz, the buzz bombs and we're still here.
It must have been very different to the end of WWI.
I always remember being told that AJP Taylor was interviewed in the 1960's on the BBC about how the celebration in 1945 differed from 1918. Taylor was a very straight talking type and said 'There was far less fornication on Armistice night. It was too cold.' You must have been able to feel the interviewers panic on live TV. That's my career over.
