In my seventy years of collecting Toy soldiers I have had the privilege of making some good friends amongst collectors of figures, one of those was my good friend Michael Taylor of Cannock in Staffordshire. Michael was not only a great figure painter of fully round figures but a brilliant flat figure painter. During the 1960's and 70's it was also the fashion to make and paint plywood cut-out figures and I was fortunate to be given about ten of his creations. Rene North an illustrator of some renown did similar cut-outs as well as producing many blank painting postcards.
