ITSC at the London Show!
Dear Fellow Members. We had our first (impromptu) meeting of the club! By default there were 10 members who attended the show last week at Haverstock School, so we took the opportunity take a club pic! Left to right - Craig Appleton of Redcoat Models, Stephen Hutchinson, Barry Hards, Ian and Margaret Stevenson, Andrew Stevenson, Paul Cattermole, and Scot Paget. Also at the show were Simon Jenkins and Renato Fort.
A great spontaneous turn out from across the UK and Canada!
Conversation turned to what we can do as a club at future shows. The London show is a great opportunity for us to all get together, and promote the club, our hobby.
I had a chat with Tom from Guidelines who runs the show. The show will now be incorporating the plastic modelling show. there were several Plastic modeling clubs with displays and a completion taking place through the day.
However there was NOTHING from the toy soldier/model soldier side, either as displays or a figure competition. A sad state for the "premier toy and model figure show in the world" , and our hobby.
With this in mind, I asked Tom what the possibility would be for the ITSC putting on a display and holding a competition at the show. He was fully supportive and offered to supply both trophies and a prize!
So, on the back of our turn out at the show, and the conversation with members, and Tom at Guidelines, I put to you the following proposals:
That we use the twice yearly London show as a means of meeting up in the UK and having a bit of a social, and where possible we do the same at other shows as a way of connecting and not just in the UK but where ever we are in the toy soldier community.
We have a show display for the London show to promote the hobby and the ITSC.
We take up the offer to host a Toy and Model Soldier competition at the London show in May and December next year, sponsored by the London Toy Model Soldier Show (Guideline Publications) .
I will look at getting some leaflets and a pop up done for the ITSC if we decide to have a show presence. What do you think?Let me know ! Regards Andrew
It sounds a fantastic idea, I'd be up for it if I can juggle dates, travelling and painting (or as I now call it, dabbing with a purpose :) ) if I can help I will, keep me in the loop chaps :)
