These are some figures I started collecting some 15 years ago. They are made by Heyde(I believe) in about 1896, they are hollow cast and measure about 3" tall. In the late 1890's Charles Dickens wrote a lot
of popular novels, such as Oliver Twist, Pickwick papers, David Copperfield etc etc. Although the books weren't illustrated, the descriptions he created with his words prompted an artist called "Fry" (I think?) to produce illustrations which went into "Punch" magazine and many years later, reproduced on a set of John Player cigarette cards.
As far as I know , there were only eight different figures made(unless somebody else knows differently.
It has taken me nearly 20 years to find all these, with a lot of help from my good friend Frank Poeth from the Netherlands.

They are wonderful, I have a handful of those porcelain new made Dickens figures for some of the village buildings, but these are much nicer by far!
