A question of fire power
So a couple of years ago I read 'Destructive and Formidable' by David Blackmore looking at how the English army developed the ability to create a rolling volley via platoon firing. The question that came to mind from reading this was could 1700 English infantry deployed correctly face and stop, by the rolling volley/platoon firing, a 1870's Zulu charge. So do you think Brown Bess could have done it?

To bring it more up to date, when I did my National service in Rhodesia in 1966 one of the chaps had done some time in the Belgium Congo where small numbers of mercenaries were up against hundreds of advancing soldiers, their biggest worry being ammunition and the fear of running out of it.
